Amidst the grips of a pandemic, we are continually uncovering an era of a “new normal”, a time that is challenging to get past. These are unique and unprecedented times as the country has been put under strict lockdown for the first time in modern Malaysia.
The COVID-19 pandemic is slowly changing the way we access healthcare and dental care is no exception. In the highly collaborative field of dentistry where close patient contact is necessary, the risk of infection is high.
For this very reason, our dental team has been put under additional training in order to ensure that our ongoing procedures meet or exceed the sanitation and sterilization standards of care.
We have also elevated our infection control protocols across every procedure and response to this time of global concern.
You can visit our dental practice with confidence, and rest assured that your dental health is in safe hands. We make sure that all additional measures are provided for the safety of our patients and our dental team.
Is it safe to visit our dental clinic now?
Even before the outbreak, infection control regulations have always been fairly strict in the dental industry. It has been a standard protocol for our entire dental care team to wear protective gear, including gloves, surgical masks, and eye goggles to minimize the risk of transmitting germs from one patient to another.
Now, due to the pandemic, our dental clinic has implemented additional safety precautions.
The easing of the lockdown guidelines across the country has resulted in a lot of dental clinics being allowed to reopen. At this time, a lot of people might be nervous to pursue a dental appointment because of the high risk of infection.
However, we would like to assure our patients of the measures we are taking in order to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive dental care, without fear or concern.
We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation and all Ministry of Health (MOH) regulations very closely. We ensure you that it is in fact safe to visit us for your dental health care.
What are we doing to protect our patients and the dental team from COVID-19?
Your dental health is important to us, and your safety is our top priority. As a private dental setting taking full responsibility for our patients, we are more than favourable to changes that would enhance the infection control measures in our clinic. We are offering additional care precautions for optimal dental health preservation during this critical time.
Every treatment room is sterilized with a UV light for 5 minutes after every single treatment. Equipment in our dental office is also wiped down thoroughly with 70% alcohol disinfectants at regular intervals. Hand sanitization is done for all patients when they enter the clinic with provision also for a sanitation mat for patients to step on.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Our dental team is equipped with PPE including hairnets, face shields, gloves, and full-body gowns while we work.
Appointment time allotted for each patient is also lengthened to reduce the number of patients in the clinic with respect to the social distancing norms and also to make time for sterilization between patients.
The temperature reading of anyone (patients and staff) entering the clinic is recorded for screening purposes. All visitors are required to check-in with the MySejahtera App by scanning the QR code.
The waiting area is subject to frequent sterilization and the separation of waiting seats. The chairs are placed 6 feet apart. Any unnecessary items like magazines and TV have been removed from communal areas to minimize contact.
We have also instituted additional protective measures in our dental clinic like wrapping all our equipment including computers with cling wraps and replacing them every day.
What precautions should I take in the meantime?
It is safe to say that COVID-19 is going to be with us for many more months. During this time, we cannot forget the core of our health needs, especially our dental needs. Here are some things to do while we accustom ourselves to this situation.
- If you experience symptoms of Covid – Stay at home to minimize the risk of infecting others. Seek immediate medical attention if you have serious symptoms. Always call before visiting the clinic.
● Wash your hands – at least 20 seconds of thorough scrubbing before and after any personal dental care
● Brush your teeth – twice a day for at least 2 minutes to achieve clean teeth
● Don’t forget to floss – at least once a day to remove bacteria that are in hard-to-reach spots
● Eat a well-balanced diet – limit the consumption of sticky, sugary foods like candy, soda
● Limit frequency of snacking – frequent snacking can increase your chances of dental caries
● Drink plenty of water – at least 8 glasses of water throughout the day with and between meals
● Avoid smoking – smoking imposes a lowered circulation to your mouth, making it easier for bacteria to grow and breed
We hope that you are safe during this unrelenting time. We value your trust in us and are committed to quality dental care and are continually working to deliver the best dental service to our beloved patients.
